  • It wasnt an AI avatar. It was an AI advertisement that used an uncanny AI generated goth girl, and after being asked “why didnt you just make something yourself in gimp?” responded like a toddler shitting his pants saying “well YOU GUYS are all STUPID because ive been using AI since I started WORKING on deltachat so why is this DIFFERENT?”

Which is why I have since uninstalled deltachat. I am not going to trust my privacy and security to be kept intact when the code is written by AI. Theres no guarantees the AI won’t fuck up and make a massive security breach.

“A human could do it too!” Sure. they could. A human could also make the decision to drive off the road into a ditch. Most dont unless they’re suicidal or by accident. AI driving cars do it without thought or reason.

  • This feels a bit fear-monguerish. People should be worried about state surveillance, not Giuseppe the first time business owner installing local CCTV for theft prevention.

I don’t like the idea of being recorded without consent, but i also am more worried about Flock, Ring and Nest services more than I am general CCTV. Most CCTV systems are local, and not uploaded to a central Palintir powered AI database. This graphic feels misleading without disclosing if CCTV counts as “locally owned camera used for insurance claims” or if it means “No warrant needed government surveillance device”.

edit: and this source is sketchy as fuck. What does “Visual Capitalist” mean?? The website provides no “about” page, in fact it provides nothing outside of an infinitely scrolling “posts” page and a “sign in/sign up” button. It looks like venture capitalist startup garbage. https://www.voronoiapp.com/

edit 2: I found the actual source, and the actual source says basically the same thing I did.

Where possible, we have only included public CCTV cameras, including cameras installed on public buildings, cameras used by law enforcement, cameras installed on public transport, and traffic cameras with surveillance capabilities (i.e. automatic number plate recognition). However, in some instances, it may not be clear what cameras are included, meaning some private camera figures may also be included in the totals. We believe this may be the case for Indore.

So this admission, in my opinion, taints the study entirely. I’m not going to say surveillance isn’t a problem. Surveillance is a HUGE problem, but we should be relying on hard facts, not grey area statistics that may or may not be true. Flock ALPR cameras are funded by Palintir. Palintir is Peter Theils brainchild. Palintir’s goal is the mass profiling and survilleing of the general populace. Palintir has partnerships with international companies, so it is not limited to US surveillance. All of these are hard facts that can be easily proven with no grey area. If we want the general population to start giving a fuck, we need to stick to those kinds of facts.

  • So it looks like currently the F-Droid release is on version 2.5.6 (Compiled Feb 11th), while the latest Android app release is v2.6.3.

Unfortunately, Immich does not currently look to be using Reproducable Builds on F-Droid, so what that means for you is you either have to wait for F-Droid to build the current app release without updating your server, or uninstall the F-Droid build and use an app like Obtainium to use the latest Immich GitHub builds.

I personally keep my Immich server in sync with the F-Droid releases, as I prefer F-Droid to Obtainium. I understand wanting to use the latest releases as soon as possible though. Considering v2.5.6 was published to GitHub Feb 10th, and there have been 4 builds, with a minor version bump and 3 bug fix releases as recently as “last week” (GitHub Relative dates can btfo) Obtainium may be better suited to your needs if your needs are keeping up with the latest updates.
