Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What show is weirdly or oddly cozy for you?English
19·12 days agoI will watch a Joy of Painting episode anytime I come across one on PBS (they stream on YouTube but it’s more fun to find it “in the wild”)
They’re hovering over North America. Bert is clearly their US operative. They’re probably about to check in with Roberto down in Mexico after having just finished with Barthelemy in the Canada office.
This could just be an ordinary Tuesday evening on the E train in NYC.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some common things people buy that you would never buy?English
801·28 days agoLottery tickets.
They’re basically just a tax on the dumb. But man the slogans — all you need is a dollar and a dream, you gotta be in it to win it, etc. — sheer marketing genius.
Thank you for your service

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What fictional character do you wish was real?English
3·30 days agoIt’s been a while, but I think people were still able to commit suicide if they just couldn’t cope with the prospect of utopia. And I think stuff like boxing was OK. Just not torturing, beating or killing people you didn’t like.

Technology@lemmy.world•"Analog bags" are in. Doomscrolling is out.English
18·1 month agoYep. Encouraging a whole new generation of casual artists, makers and readers can only be seen as a great thing. I would just add that we all need to remember how to slow down, and understand that’s good and necessary to do so every so often.

I think the problem is that we’ve forgotten how to just do nothing and be content with it (or even a bit bored with it). While I think unplugging is good, this just seems like replacing one kind of attention addiction with another.

7·1 month ago"man, people back then would read just about anything " I say to myself as i swipe through my feed of garbage.
Was about to say, Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson are definitely social justice bards. Probably the Beastie Boys too, but that just feels super weird for some reason.
Jesus I hope it’s the first one.

Privacy@programming.dev•EV that does not track my every moveEnglish
32·2 months agoI had been actively looking forward to the Slate truck (even though I don’t want a truck) for this reason - an EV with modern drivetrain but no BS electronics or telemetry. Unfortunately the price has gone from about $20K - a price appropriate for it’s minimalist approach - to “below $30K” and it’s not due out for another year, so who knows how it will pan out.
This is a hard question to answer these days
