Apparently they could have held Pokrovsk for a lot longer, but they were only reinforced to 10-20% of what was needed to man the extensive trenches and fortifications. Presumably those reinforcements were sent to Kursk instead.
Seems like Kursk will likely end up being the deciding battle of the war once again.
