Chickens have already been genetically manipulated (selective breeding) into laying almost 10 times the amount of eggs they normally do. Why do they need to be laying even more? It’s so selfish.
Humans are disgusting. A friend of mine takes care of chicken that cant lay enough eggs to be profitable anymore. They’re bound for a short, painful life with expensive vet visits after. It is insane. Mass torturing animals and selling it as a win to extend their torture is making me gag.
Can we just not? Humanity really was a mistake.
This has little to do with humanity. It’s not human nature to exploit animals.
It is a part of human society, though. Exploit animals, nature, each other… kind of what we’ve been doing for most of our existence. Well, the ones in power at least.
Misanthropy is inaccurate and has consequences I don’t like and has little potential to change things for the better.
Human society is very adaptable and human culture has evidence of not needing to exploit chickens.
It is NOT human nature. We built gigantic torture and murder chambers to kill billions of animals and hold them under the creuelest of conditions.
This has zero to do with the humans that probably stole a bit of milk from a cow in ancient times.
In that case it is also human nature to fuck our siblings, eat each other, etc. It is observable in tribes and history that society shapes us, not nature.

I wonder what the price is currently and how this will affect it. I would hope that finding a non-human medical use will drive the price of the medicine down as production goes up. Likely they will just manufacture a lower grade, deplete supplies of whatever it takes to make it and raise the price for human medicine for good measure.

Well, that is probably good. I always feel a little pessimistic when I see something like this. Any time they can increase production, they tend to think about the dollars first and the impact second. It took way too long for regulation to catch up with them putting antibiotics in feed to increase production. I think they wouldn’t stop by themselves if they had to put a few diabetics in comas if they could increase egg production by some percentage. (I am also very pro-farmer, but competition forces out anybody who won’t sink to the common low.)
That’s my concern too. People jumping or trying to push into using it before the possible consequences are fully known.
