I would let myself die because this scene is so far removed from the laws of physics that I spent my life studying and my entire career would now be completely worthless.

Artyom@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are commonly used idioms/metaphors that make no sense to anyone who knows about the topic they come from?4·6 days agoKinda wild how a web pages still take several seconds to load. I remember first hearing about multi-megabyte per second internet and assumed pages will load instantly. Now a webpage is so large it takes compiled languages several seconds to parse them.
Artyom@lemm.eeto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•This section of Jim Carrey's Wikipedia Article16·8 days agoActors say this shit all the time, particularly when they know they’re a critical character in the middle of an unfinished successful series. I wish I could just tell my boss I’m retiring then come back a week later just to do the work I was always planning on doing after my boss wrote a check for $10 million.

Dude’s got 1k gamer score. He’s played like 3 games and is already talking shit.
Kind of incredible how we pretty much invented those 3 extra numbers to make sure that knowing what’s on the front won’t he enough to use it, and then we undid that by putting it on the back. https://xkcd.com/2677/
Artyom@lemm.eeto Android@lemdro.id•Android 16's new 90:10 split-screen is a game-changer for multitaskingEnglish3·15 days agoThe new trick is that when you tap on the bottom 10%, it’ll make that app take up 90%, and the app you were just in will be downsized to the remaining 10%. As for why this is considered better than pressing the multitasking button twice, I have no idea. I’ve honestly never enjoyed the split screen feature on my phone, but I multitask a lot.
Engineers need to stay busy I guess, even if every feature a phone needs has been implemented.
Because Mozilla is the master of bad ideas and most open source projects are leaving github, not joining it.
He doesn’t have to be a homosapien, he could be a corporation instead!
They’ll remember you for the rest of their lives.
Ummm…Windows 11 was way more of a KDE ripoff than a gnome ripoff.
As a former student who tried to stay on top of the absurd logistics of making use of my premium license, it sucks. Once a year you have to dig up your old account credentials, and it’s always when you’re in the middle of a high stakes project. Worrying about licensing sucks, even when someone else is paying for it.
Remember the T-Rex is female…
Palatine coming back makes sense with some of the themes from 3, but it really undermines everything about the original trilogy. Essentially, thr sequels take away anything and everything Luke ever did.
We should all be glad Newton never saw relativity, cuz he’d be on that shit like white on rice and would have come up with some crazy shit. Not to say that relativity isn’t otherwise full of crazy shit, but it would probably be crazier shit.

Artyom@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How are Americans preparing for the Trumpist supply shock?37·1 month agoI’m far less worried about the imminent supply shock to the economy and far more worried about the long term damage to things like the FDA. We’ve decided we’re going to try to go from ~10% vegetarian to closer to 80% or 100% because I simply don’t trust that thing like meat and milk can stay safe to consume. I do have a solid amount of food in my house, and if shelves start emptying I think I’ll be okay for a bit, but that’ll pass. I can’t really leave this country, so I need to be planning for longer term problems too.
They would probably never fall off in the first place, which is why you’ve never heard of anything remotely like this ever happening. Usually, there’s two supports, one in the front and one in the back. Even if one of these large steel posts somehow fails, the other one will hold the logs long enough for the driver to stop the car. They’ve almost certainly tested stuff like this from a standstill while designing those beds. Same principle holds for ratchet straps, although there will be far more than 2 straps, making catastrophic failure even rarer, and those would be routinely inspected for damage.
