BigDiction@lemmy.worldto United States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•The US Congress warns that the Golden Dome is a risky and inefficient project.2·18 days agoThis was the late 2000s but knew a person actively working on long range ballistic missile interception. Asked, “how does it work? Is it like a shotgun or explosion where you explode when closing in on the other missile?”
Turns out the most reliable method was kinetic. A pencil hitting a pencil on the order of kilometers a second making contact way up in the atmosphere.
My limited understanding is this was nowhere near 100% reliable at the time, but there were successes. Some real crazy shit when you think about it.
BigDiction@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.ml•Trump announces that the USA has bombed Iranian nuclear sites.9·21 days agoHe’s used that sign off on a couple other messages. It is such an odd change of tone.
Makes me think it’s some weird manipulation tactic, or like the 17th time he says it it’s a code word to dismantle Congress or some shit.
I searched this text because I thought it might be copypasta. Great read lmao
It’s a good question. The flat fee is already covered by your item purchase, so at worst it would be 2.5-3.5% of the donation amount, which isn’t terrible.
I don’t understand the post title.
BigDiction@lemmy.worldto Games@sh.itjust.works•As much as it pains me to say it, the Switch 2's short battery life is a real bummerEnglish81·27 days agoPreviously people complained the Switch 2 couldn’t push pixels like a PS5…
Is there a big rift in the player base that plays docked vs mobile? I just don’t know how to process the feedback for this console.
In the US cops have been known to deploy ‘Stingray’ devices that spoof a cell tower and create a record of every phone in the area. In the context of a protests, these records could be used to determine who attend multiple events, who the likely organizers are, etc to create lists of undesirable people who may receive special attention from law enforcement.
More specifically, if shit goes down at a protest there is digital record of your attendance. It’s very easy to go from a peaceful protester to a criminal in the eyes of the government.
BigDiction@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has anyone checked on the NRA recently? They seem to have been pretty quiet since the tyrannical government that they've been warning us about for decades came to pass. I wonder if they're ok?2·1 month agoFirst time I’ve seen WG mentioned on Lemmy. Broadly anti government with a lot else mixed in is a great description lmao.
Too bad it caught a ban. The community generally did a great job at keeping the racist assholes out.
Sure but this looks like Microsoft complying with sanctions. I was unaware sanctions were applied to the ICC, which is complete nonsense.
BigDiction@lemmy.worldto [Migrated, see pinned post] Casual Conversation @lemm.ee•What's an insider secret about somewhere you used to work?English1·2 months agoReading this in an ad tech context (Demand Side Platform, where businesses pay money to get their ads into the marketplace) read equally true. Their margin is roughly 50-60%
Edit: Amazon is a DSP in the advertising space
Yeah it’s arguable that Steam is a monopoly but somehow billion dollar publishers can’t create a store to sell their own products without fucking it up with annoying bullshit. Pay the 30% to protect you from yourselves.
Google has been kicking the can on ending third party cookie support for years. Chrome has such a large market share that whatever they decide to do has a huge impact on the ability to monetize content with ads.
There’s no clear direct replacement for identifying users for ad targeting outside of 3pty cookies. Lots of competing ‘privacy preserving frameworks’ but they all need buy in from many players at scale to be effective.
I think about this story like once a month.
Pretty sure you refer to this case Christopher Dorner
BigDiction@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Nintendo Switch 2 details: Screen size, controllers, storage, microphone chat and gamesEnglish5·3 months agoYeah I distinctly remember N64 games being $60 in the late 90s. We saved a lot with digital downloads vs retail over the years but it is funny that games have largely been level in price for 30 years at this point.
Oh man I thought left was boobs and right was dick and balls.
Ah i forgot it was Pterodactyl specifically, thanks for confirming!
P.S. to my handler at the agency, please forgive my search history this morning. The video above is what I was trying to find.
Ah of course. I think Boston as well and maybe that super federal (NOVA?) part around DC.
