  • 3 legged chairs sounds like a nightmare, why not 4 legs with basic suspension mechanisms in the legs? 3 legged chairs is such a bad idea I’m questioning the validity of most of the rest of your screed. How do you propose 3 legged chairs to work without being a tipping hazard? 1 leg in the front or well off the back (impeding the walkway behind the chair)

  • An increase in temperature also increases the evaporation rate of water. rain storms will be more intense, but just because the atmosphere holds more water doesn’t mean it won’t also be releasing more water.

Venus isn’t at all comparable to Earth… That’s a literal crazy comparison. If Earth received 30% more solar radiation, didn’t have ocean heat sinks (I most worry about global warming because of the cccd rising, not about “where are we going to get water from”, between using fossil fuels for combustion to make energy, and the elimination of calcium carbonate life forms in the ocean, we’re going to asphyxiate long before we dehydrate, or over hydrate, or whatever we’re worried about from the water)

More extreme water patterns doesn’t mean less drinking water.

Less ocean bio activity means less breathable air.

  • My favorite 3 things of the last decade

Electric cars, Incredible performance, low maintenance.

Steam deck, great fun in a small package, great to play games before bed

Podcasts, seriously there’s one that will speak to you.

Bonus: taskmaster, it’s entirely free on YouTube, it’s a worldwide phenomena, simple low stakes fun, akin to the great British baking show without the manufactured drama (not that there’s much in gbb)

  • Magnets.

If there’s no field there’s 0, if there’s a magnetic field clockwise it makes a positive charge, if there’s a magnetic field rotating counterclockwise it makes a negative charge,

Likewise if there’s a positive charge it makes a clockwise magnetic field and if there’s a negative charge it makes a counter clockwise field. (I may be backwards +/- clockwise/counter clockwise, something about the thumb on my left hand…, but really it’s all arbitrarily named, but the reason you just say negative or positive is that those are scalable measures, you can’t have half a Bob or 2 Alice. )

  • The CNC (computer controlled cutters) metals that slide into each other so tightly that you cannot see the seam, are created using 2 separate blocks of metal, one becomes the outer block and the other becomes the inner block, then they’re both polished together to appear seamless. There’s no practical way (as far as I know) to make significant cuts without losing or malforming some of the material (you can cut playdough without losing any of the mass, but it’s bunched up along the cut path.

My very old understanding of how materials behave

  • Wish I had the exact number (my brain likes to count everything), but I’ve done like 100 flip turns at the pool this year. Back in high school I’d do over 100 a day. I’ve been telling myself for a decade “this is the year I’ll do flip turns every lap by x-date”, of course I set off this year with the same lie. And of course I’m not doing them on every lap, but at one point I did my first in over 20 years, and then I did a couple in a row, and then I realized how much less time I have to focus on such a trivial thing, but it was the act of exercising itself that I was benefiting from, not perfectly recreating who I was half a lifetime ago.

I’ve kept going to the pool this year, and I’ve improved myself by doing that, I’m not going to be as fast or skilled or fluid as I used to be, I’m probably never going to flip turn every turn again, but I’m not going to get discouraged by not meeting my own goals that I’d set while looking in a rose tinted mirror.

Could also phrase it as “swam over 100 km (really a bit impressive amount of distance, 1.5-2.5 km per day one of two days a week) listening to the same 4"the dollop”, “god awful movies” “citation needed” and “no such thing as a fish” episodes on repeat (because I kept forgetting to bring my swim headphones and their transfer cable to the same place at the same time)
