A good Xfiles episode is a lot like a good TOS episode – campy and fucking ridiculous, but man is it a good time.

Dont worry… Scully will reason/explain/pseudoscience it away with the voiceover at the end.
I mean, it’s just common sense.

Technology@lemmy.world•Homeland Security Spying on Reddit Users: Leak show feds tracking anti-ICE Reddit users like "Budget-Chicken-2425"English
81·2 days agoI tend to think that – for myself for sure but probably most other people – after a decade plus on Reddit, you’ve likely said and posted enough stuff that somebody could follow the breadcrumbs back to you. Theyd have to really want to and it would take a lot of reading your posts, but it could probably be done. Anonymity doesn’t exist without a vpn, and even then you’re probably still identifiable. Don’t say, post or do anything on the internet that youre not willing to defend/pay for in real life.
Got a crockpot/slowcooker? If so, throw a thawed chicken breast in there, season it with paprika, chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper and add a small jar of salsa. Set it to low and go to work.
When you come home. Shred it with a fork. You now have pulled chicken. Put it on a bun and add some bbq sauce. Bon apetit.
But wait. There’s more
Day two: slice some peppers and onions. Use the same seasoning on the peppers and onions and move them around in a scorching hot pan. Toss in leftover shredded chicken to warm up and absorb the flavor. I like to squirt some lime juice on it right at the end. Put that on a tortilla and enjoy your chicken fajitas.
Easy and delish and not from frozen. Do multiple breasts and freeze the leftovers for future quick meals.
He definitely says “shao-dieeeer”
All im saying is if the courts determine a business can use copyrighted material to make profit without permission, that seems to set a precedent that makes the high seas legal. Those pirates often arent even profiting off it.

3·7 days ago(Not OP.) Sucks that you gotta debloat. I want to say it should be opt in for anything thats not basic function, but I think that’s too extreme. Maybe people out there find the web search function super useful, or they appreciate the adverts or whatever.
Anyhoo, even though I debloat everything like crazy from day one, i find myself debloating something new about once a month or so still.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What skills did almost everybody have 50 years ago, but few people have today?
3·10 days agoNot OP, but I believe there is a big difference between reading a book or longform article vs 3 paragraphs in a Fediverse thread. I certainly feel it when I sit down to read longform (but i still often read longform).

633·11 days agoHoly Christ, what are you guys doing on your phones to fuel this much paranoia? I have a constitutional right to privacy and i dont want my information/data (the very essence that makes me me) harvested and sold – for those reasons im opposed to most searches and i’ve never used biometrics. But the need to nuke my phone because a cop got it is so far from a necessity that I cant think of what im doing that I would need it.

Rfkjr is unqualified for his position.
Engagement bait. Here we are commenting on a lukewarm meme about a topic that most people dont give a flying fuck about.

21·25 days agoEverybody always goes on and on about how great linux is for gaming pcs these days. I recently poked around online to see if my rtx5070ti would be supported and found a bunch of people facing issues, and that Mint and Ubuntu weren’t recommended.
I dont want the AI nonsense, and Windows/Microslop blows, but I want my new gaming laptop to work correctly for several years given the money I spent on it. I can’t see making the switch when the gpu support is so convoluted.
Ive had many Linux machines in the past, so that bums me out.
Edit: someone should make a webpage that automatically reads the hardware and specs of your windows machine and then creates a table of suggested distros. That table should also include “what you’ll lose” that shows which features will become lost or finicky. And it should also include direct download links.
If the goal is to have morons like myself adopt it, it needs to be basically fool proof and easy. Linux is much better and easier than it was in 2003, but that doesn’t mean it’s two-click easy.

14·25 days agoNot cringe, but cliche yeah.
I also have noticed the trope of Crossword puzzles being a sign of brilliance/intelligence (Brooklyn 99, Stranger Things for example). Let me tell you something – i do multiple crosswords daily to keep my hands and mind busy, and i’m a friggin moron.

The old kenwood car cd players had an “att” button that instantly dropped the volume to background noise. It was fucking awesome and I used it all the time. I want that button on everything that makes noise.
