I’d argue we should call all migrant workers expats. Unless they’re literally working in a migratory fashion, spring here, summer there, fall somewhere else, etc.

I always saw expats as something between immigrants and tourists. They aren’t trying to switch countries and they aren’t just on vacation. There’s plenty of good reasons for this category, like being sent somewhere by your employer. This naturally creates a community of foreigners who aren’t necessarily worried about fitting in as a new citizen or permanent resident would be.
But yeah, this idea that Western countries have expats instead of emigrants is weird.
Fun fact, in this kind of war, the last thing you do is tell the bad guys you know what they’re doing. That’s some Hollywood shit.
Anxiety is the most common cause of this. For further details seek professional help.
How have I never thought of a cornmeal meat pie?
My wife is going to hate me because I’m about to blow up our kitchen again.
Because Israel set up an apartheid state. If they had set about building a representative democracy that included a constitutional right of return for Jews nobody would have had a problem. Instead they want to own all this land and oppress the people who live there.
Either that’s a legitimate goal or it isn’t. I don’t think it is.
Yeah I don’t think people get how weak the body gets when it’s healing big things.
Dude, I was in a hospital bed for 3 days after a car accident. I could barely shuffle around the nurse’s station when they released me.
Oh yeah, there’s always the possibility that despite the numerous articles on it the government just ignores him.
Without straight up ignoring the law in this case, which State Department is more than capable of doing, it’s really not a different law.
In this specific case? It comes down to a civil servant getting paid 80k a year. If they get his case file for review and they flag it then the government starts doing it’s thing. Of course it will end up in court but a normal court can’t do much about it. Which is how Elon’s bestest buddies set it up. And once it’s on his file that he lied in order to gain citizenship or residency he’s straight up barred.
In other words, if he lied then it will take a literal act of congress to save his citizenship.
That’s been a growing issue for the last 15 years. The answer is community groups but they haven’t been very successful.
BG3 reminded us of what’s possible in game story telling. What letting the marketing team run the shop has done to the industry.
No. They are absolutely not allowed to stop food and aid into the combat zone they created. They are absolutely not allowed to prevent Egypt from sending aid in. They are absolutely not allowed to conduct a naval blockade.
Russia is food secure and has trade access all along Central and East Asia. Norway’s closure is in no way the same thing.
When the professional aid distribution people who work for the United States Agency for International Development tell you it’s happening, then it’s happening.
USAID already reported Israel is using hunger as a weapon. Which very much qualifies.
None of that matters to me. You can be conservative and give renters a break. As long as they’re the right renters. This idea of in groups and out groups that is the core of conservative ideology is gaining ground.
Edit to add - It’s struck me that the article and I are actually talking about two different things. Their real complaint is that the Democrats are moving towards servicing the donor class more than their constituents. My complaint is that the constituents are getting too cozy with the idea of in groups, as long as they believe they’re on the inside.
I respectfully disagree. Half of independents and a quarter of Democrats said they’d support militarized camps for undocumented people.
The corporate/conservative propaganda is working.
Phones. From anytime up to and including rotary phones.
I think that was the point. To be silly.
