Gold does have practical value. It doesn’t oxidize or tarnish at standard temperature and pressure, it is soft enough to beat into shape with a hammer and it can be rolled out incredibly thinly. If it were as common as iron, we would see it used everywhere. Gold sewer pipes, gold roofing, even gold foil to wrap your sandwich.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Over 97% of the 'Linux' Foundation's Budget Goes Not to LinuxFrançais
4·14 days agoWhy is it so important for Linus Torvalds’ salary to be in the top 10? He might think it is fair, based on his current contributions to the project.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Spotify and Major Music Labels Sue Anna’s Archive for $13 TrillionEnglish
23·4 months agoAccording to the article, $150,000 is the maximum damages allowed per track. So $150,000/track * 86,000,000 tracks is around $13 Trillion. So they are asking for the maximum that the law allows.
They could ask for infinity billion dollars for all it matters; you can’t get blood from a stone.
It has been a while, but it was usually after installing the proprietary drivers that I started to get glitches. I probably missed a step somewhere. I have an extra disk, I may give it another go with a bit more care.
Nvidia 4070 ti. I know AMD has better open-source drivers but I had the card before switching.
I feel your pain. I tried Fedora 3 times but had graphics issues every time. I switched to Bazzite and haven’t had any issues since. Bazzite is Fedora, so it was definitely a skill issue.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What diseases do we never think of but should really know how to spot the signs of?English
4·4 months agoYes. Vaccines don’t grant 100% immunity. They give your body enough information to kill the disease before it gets out of hand. The goal is to make so many people resistant that the disease can’t spread and it dies out. If your immune system isn’t working well, or it didn’t “parse” the vaccine properly, you can still get sick.

They might remove their Canadian servers but you can use Mullvad without giving them any personal information. The government would need to block Mullvad or Mullvad would need to block Canadian IPs.
I doubt Mullvad would block Canadian IPs; it would be a bit antithetical to their business model. The Canadian government couldn’t really go after a company without any Canadian presence either.
