Technology@lemmy.world•The Supreme Court Is About to Hear a Case That Could Rewrite Internet AccessEnglish
8·11 days agoThey will let A.I. resolves disputes, just like YouTube does.
/s
or is it /s?
'T" is in the first row. A t should be revealed in the second row for that answer.
Your pretty polly might cost a pretty penny.
A pretty penny.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•what everyday technology do you think future generations will find completely baffling?
146·28 days agoAnalog clocks. Digital is so much easier.
Fillings and crowns. The dentist will regrow teeth.
Flashlights. You mean you carry a lighting device that does nothing else, when your phone can do that plus a million other things?
Keys. We’ll likely carry a fob for most things. They’ll be programmable to allow us to adapt to our locks, like a universal TV remote.
Fax machines in government. Someone in government will finally realize scan to email is so much cleaner.

United States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•Senate is poised to take the first steps to end 40-day shutdown

• What happens next? There is more to come before the government can reopen. Any one senator can delay consideration of the package for several days, plus the House will have to return and adopt the deal struck in the Senate before it gets sent to President Donald Trump’s desk.

United States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•Senate is poised to take the first steps to end 40-day shutdown
4·1 month agoWell that’s just the Senate. If it passes, we have to get the House on board. Then POTUS.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Someone with your last name commits a heinous crime and their name becomes infamous, would you change that name? Why or Why not?
27·1 month agoI guess it depends how common your last name is where you live. If you’re a Smith/Johnson/Brown/Williams in the USA, those are pretty common. If you’ve got one of those names in China, maybe a name change is in order.
If your last name is Summerbell, that’s a bit rare, and maybe you need to distance yourself.

Programming@programming.dev•What do you think the future of Windows is?
16·1 month agoI think they’re going to need to back pedal some ideas. Ideas that are “for your benefit” such as, your user folder linked to one drive (so you’ll always have a backup) is also a cash-grab (“oh, you only have 5 GB of space. We’ll sell you more!”). This needs to be opt-in.
Windows 7’s market share has surprisingly increased to about 9.61% in 2025. This rise is likely due to users hesitating to upgrade to Windows 11 as support for Windows 10 is ending.
You can say that’s only 10%, but how much is that in lost revenue?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Difficulty breathing when sleeping on back
20·1 month agoI would check with your doctor rather than soliciting advice from randos on the Internet.
That said, sleep apnea makes breathing on one’s back difficult.
You want to work remotely in tech. I would look at places such as https://www.indeed.com/q-Remote-Tech-jobs.html?vjk=7909b7463088bb3a
Look at which certs they want and how much experience they want. Look at the salary. Look at the quality of life (are you on call 24/7?).
You may find that remote cybersecurity jobs are not plentiful. I searched “cyber security entry level” and Remote and found 2. I removed remote and found 300+ jobs.
1 has flexible hours and wants (likely requires) experience in Version control as well as Sec+
The other is full time, and wants a valid SSCP certification*, a bachelor’s degree, and experience in operating systems.
The future is always changing what people do. In 1100 AD blacksmithing was a reliable career, and it remained that way into the 1800s. The 20th century kind of messed that career path down to a niche group. Blue collar work (be it construction, plumbing, etc.) so far has been pretty reliable.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If A.I. is so fast and efficient, and CEOs are paid so much, why not replace CEOs with A.I.?
542·2 months agoFor a publicly traded business, this could greatly benefit the share holder with a more efficient AI CEO to steer the ship.
