Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How many of you are non-native English speakers?
1·6 hours agoFor spoken English, I greatly recommend audiobooks and podcasts. They typically have better narrators, so are easier to understand. As a bonus, one can listen to them while doing household chores and such — for me, consumption of books greatly increased with audiobooks compared to snatches of books here and there.
Plug them all in, and you’ve got a Cronenbergesque sculpture underscoring the protagonist’s descent into the more surreal corners of the unfolding story.
Took me a little while to realize it’s not a condom or a weird hotdog on the flag.

1·1 day agoYou can try Automate instead of Tasker, for automation in general. IMO Tasker’s interface and workflow leave much to be desired. However, Automate is also paid via Google Play, so the same issue might be present. You can ask in their subreddit.
But, I’ve never seen anything in Automate allowing to stop charging.

2·1 day agoPeter Thiel explicitly sided with Sauron in an interview, because “things work in Mordor, while outside Mordor it’s all wishy-washy and environmental”.
That creature looks uncomfortable. Also, it’s been a while since I did anything D&D — aren’t those stats buffed a whole lot?

Me looking through yall’s memes for what I can send to my friends.
I realized just now that I didn’t know how an anteater’s mug works, and, well…
I mean, I still consider this page cool. It seems to have originated in 2016, and IMO it’s not quite the 90s ‘dancing baby’ design or Myspace, but instead has a definite whiff of Tumblr art circa early-mid 2010s. I liked psychedelic-ish Tumblr art, it gave a whimsical perspective on life.

1·3 days agoA bonafide use for AI, for me, would be hiding every photo of Trump, Musk, and Putin. They are ugly both inside and out, seeing posts or articles with their photos ruins my mood.
Reportedly, establishing a rudimentary signing language helps in communication until the child has proper motor skills for speech. However, it’s important to not overly rely on signing to the detriment of language development.
Just FYI, if you just use Firefox in both OSes, you can sync the tabs, history, and extension settings. Though I’ve seen the opinion that Safari works faster, but OTOH extension developers are unhappy with Apple’s publishing/vetting process, and some devs dropped support for Safari that they provided previously.

Not just in Siberia. Though this one is defunct.
