Many people attack if a post does not reflect their world view. I have learned that in most cases, this is primarily an issue of their limited world view, and not one of my post.
Simply ignore the idiots, and, if they escalate, just block them. Don’t let them control you.
I read for work and fun.
I like a number of different genres, historical novels, fantasy, SciFi, thriller, and many more. No crimes or romances, and biographies are a waste of paper 99% of the time.
I’m married with adult kids, and having a family and work curbs my reading time.
I started reading digital books a few decades ago, and have roughly the same amount of real and digital books, both in the five digits range.
I’m a fast reader. As a kid, I read a few novels a day. All libraries within bike range knew me, and I rarely needed a library pass. I still read faster than others, and I switched to reading English books (English is not my native language) to intentionally cut down my reading speed to 100 to 200 pages per hour. I currently proof read and edit English books for fun.
Depends how they behave. If they behave like “Expats”, who don’t care about integrating into our society, don’t care about learning the local language even after years, they are not welcome.
If they integrate seamless (and this does not imply giving up their identity, just to make sure), and become a good member of this society, be welcome.

Only in backwater countries that still use those antique washing lines that break with every instance of bad weather.
First past the post. Electorate college. Overrepresentation of smaller States. Gerrymandering. PACs.
And thats just the ones that pop up immediately. For calling yourself a democracy, your system is quite rigged.
I once waited half an hour for voting, because I foolishly decided to vote just when Sunday mass was over (we vote on Sundays, and my polling station was right across the church). Never made that mistake again, waiting time is usually five to ten minutes.

Regarding comprehensive knowledge: there might be a lot of topics where you lack the knowledge to write a good and detailed answer. There might even be topics where you don’t even have a clue what they are actually asking about.
But I am sure there are topics where you are the person in the know. And someday, someone will ask a question where you are the person perfectly qualified to answer it.
Hacking. Each and every time it is part of a movie or TV series.
Either “Boredom: After some time you have seen basically everything.” or “Can’t keep up: The world changes so fast, and I’m, stuck in a mindset I acquired in 1543”.
And: Bureaucratic nightmare. “We have you on file as being born in 1924, but you don’t really look like a centennial. Can I see your passport instead of that of your great-grandfather, please?”
Trump will tell them that he is the most sophisticated president ever, even when he loses and ends up in the psych ward.
Let’s put it this way: You can produce unreadable code in basically any language. With Perl, it is just a bit easier.
And of course if you have the discipline of a good programmer, even your casual Perl programs should be readable. That’s what differenciates a good programmer from a hacker.
I have to admit that using CL-PPCRE does not really help me understanding the regexp any better. But this may be because I deal with complex regexps for decades now, and I just read them.
C&C Red Alert, I played red, friend played blue. I spent loads on tesla coils, which I kept in the rear of my base. He found my base, did not get near enough to see the coils before my guards killed his scout, and returned with an army, expecting the camp to be nearly undefended. His complete army got roasted by the tesla coils.
Next turn, he was red and I was blue. He tried to copy my tactic, but I came from the rear with a small unit and killed two of his power stations, disabling his power grid. No power, no tesla coils…
At university, a prof for theoretical CS (the kind of professor who thought CS students don’t need computers) was looking for someone to program something for him. The requirements really showed that he had no clue about programming. His assistent, sitting beside him, obviously knew that, too.
I basically told that prof that he had no idea what he was talking about, and suggested that he should attend a basic programming course before I left.
This actually depends on the kind of project. In larger and longterm projects I write my comments in English. In quick jobs like writing a source code generator or data swabbler that I need once or relatively short term, I use German. It does not make much of a difference for me, though, and I have a script that walks over a source tree to find some common German words just in case I had written something in German by accident.
