Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you do to get over that lethargic feeling when you finish a great book/show and can't contemplate starting something else?
10·2 months agoMan I feel this question
I just let it be… After completing the last of us or red dead for example, or indeed a great serie or book I just go with it. To put it even more dramatic, it feels like you lost a friend or even a relation. So I just let time heal the wound. After a while I am ready to begin with something new, but that takes some time

Linux@lemmy.ml•What are the silliest reasons people have given you for not wanting to try Linux?
5·3 months agoOkay hear me out… When you say all those words in a sentence, I have honestly no idea what you are saying. But furthermore it looks like it didn’t work (or so I think). That is the reason why people (me included) don’t dare to switch
It looks like a hassle, it takes time to learn, people don’t want to back up 2 their files (I know, I don’t get that either), they don’t want to think about “bazzite” or “fstab”, partition the drive for dual boot or search hours looking for a solution.
The people with no or limited knowledge about computers want to open their laptop, start edge or chrome (I know I know) and watch cat movies on Instagram.
I really wanna make the jump, but the unknown with all possible hassle is holding me back.
And apparently mint is super easy, but it will take time and courage!
I feel dumb, what is happening?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•All humans now have a death date once they turn 50. How does society change?
2·4 months agoIs your question based on the 2011 movie “In time”? It gets a 6.7 but back then It found it quite enjoyable. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1637688/
The premise different but it has the same “fixed” end date

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some ways to combat the brain rot / slop and become more offline?
31·4 months agoEg. How to Build a New Habit: This is Your Strategy Guide https://jamesclear.com/habit-guide
- Start with an incredibly small habit.
- Increase your habit in very small ways.
- As you build up, break habits into chunks.
- When you slip, get back on track quickly.
- Be patient. Stick to a pace you can sustain.
And try to combine it with a daily recurrent activity Eg Every morning I turn on my computer (recurrent activity) Goal: (just random goal) i want to be able to run 5km So for the first 6 months i put on running shoes when i turn on my computer (maybe you have your complete running outfit on after 6 months, but if it takes 6 months for your shoes only then so be it)
Ow and it is hard and it takes time!
You need a mental goal and write it down. Visualize your end goal. Make it SMART. Prepare and work out what if scenarios. And get help like a personal trainer, coach or a group so you can share your struggle and your success!
Good luck, you got this! Aim for the moon but baby steps

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an uplifting fact that might counter the doom of our current reality?
15·4 months agoAfter your death you will be what you were before your birth.
I think that is really reassuring
What does that mean? This is one of the most logically true discussions of spirituality I am familiar with. It takes no position on what that condition might be, but addresses the issue in an almost circular reference.
Those who believe we come from nothing cannot argue that somehow, by having lived, we will go on to be something afterwards, per the First Law of Thermodynamics.
Those who believe we have a ‘soul’, something other than our physical bodies, that goes on after we die, admit that we had to have had a soul prior to birth.
And those that believe we are on a wheel, going through life again and again, understand that we are what we always have been, and will continue to be, when we’re not busy living our lives.

Steam@lemmy.ml•"Legality Is Not The Defining Factor": Steam Censorship Campaign Details It Seeks Removal Of Games Whether Legal Or Not
15·6 months agoThe title feels dissonant: it states a provocative claim without context
Collective Shout—a conservative Australian advocacy group—has made it clear that it targets video games based on the harm they inflict, not their legality. In a recent interview with TweakTown, campaigns manager Caitlin Roper stated: “legality is not the defining factor… it is about documented evidence of harm to women and girls” . She emphasized the group’s focus on opposing the sexual objectification and exploitation of women and girls, regardless of whether the content is legal. Collective Shout accuses platforms like Steam and Itch.io of insufficient moderation and lauded its recent win—pushing these platforms, via pressure on payment processors, to delist or deindex NSFW content as its 27th victory of the year .
It could be part of a wider plot, overseen by Project 2025’s leading voices, to ban p*rnography from video games and the wider internet.
Ow and they don’t like gays either…
