Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When/how frequently do you replace your phone with a new one?
2·6 天前I tried to keep my phone until it’s on its last legs. I had my OnePlus 6T for over 6 years after the battery life was abysmal. Before that I had a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact that literally fell apart.
I’d like to keep my Pixel 9 Pro for several years, fingers crossed!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When/how frequently do you replace your phone with a new one?
1·6 天前I replaced my OnePlus 6T recently and thought the performance was great, until I went back to it a couple of weeks later for something and it felt incredibly slow and laggy.
Have you replaced the battery at all? The battery life was getting extremely poor on mine which is ultimately what made me buy a new phone.

Fediverse memes@feddit.uk•Me trying to explain decentralized social media to anyone who will listenEnglish
1·6 天前What alternative terminology would you use to describe the fediverse and instances?

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•I felt so betrayed when I found out Germany isn't called Germany in Germany
6·6 天前I’ve never heard the word rutabega, it’s what we’d call a swede in the UK

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•My apartment building gives me free water but I pay for electricity. What if I run the faucet nonstop and rig up a hydro turbine in my bathtub to generate my power from it?

It’s an instant downvote for me.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft Office has been renamed to “Microsoft 365 Copilot app”English
21·8 天前Gross.
How long do we reckon it’ll be before it’s re-branded back to “Office”?

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The whole "toilet seat up, toilet seat down" gender debate could be solved by everybody putting the seat and lid down.
12·12 天前I dunno why people care what position the seat & lid are in. It takes like 1 second to put it into the required configuration.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you make a grocery list, or do you just go to the store and wing it?
8·12 天前I usually do our food shop online, however I plan the meals and write down everything we need for the week. If I’m going to the shop then I’ll write the list down in the order I’ll move through the shop so that i can just work my way down through the list.
Brimg back double-clicking on the top left corner of a program to close it.
What OS was this on? Not sure it’s ever been a feature of Windows as far as I know. What’s the benefit of doing this vs just single clicking on the X button?

Technology@lemmy.world•Explained: Why you can't move Windows 11 taskbar like Windows 10, according to MicrosoftEnglish
23·26 天前This makes no sense to me what so ever. Why do any apps care about where the taskbar is? How’s it any different when a window isn’t maximised and the user resizes it? Either I’m seriously misunderstanding this or it’s a completely made up excuse.
I’d rather they just say “we completely rewrote the taskbar, but we know that less than 0.01% of users move their taskbar so we didn’t prioritize it”.
To me the bigger issue with the taskbar is that you can’t make it compact. Instead it has to be a big chunky mess.
Primarily Spotify, mixed in with SoundCloud and YouTube for live sets.
Normalise down voting posts with this bullshit censorship.
I tried reading The Handmaid’s Tale several years ago and struggled to get into it, I felt like it kept jumping around but it wasn’t immediately obvious right away. I think I ended up giving up about 25% the way through which I’ve never done with any book. I’d seen the show too which I thought would have helped. Maybe I’ll give it another go sometime.
Imagine the possibilities!
- Heated camping mattress
- Sausage roll warmer
- Car windscreen defroster
I always hated the UX of forums. It was incredibly difficult to follow long threads with loads of pages. Personally I prefer the format we have here on Lemmy where comments are nested off the main post.

Let’s be honest, how many current Linux users can trust any code that they run? There’s so many guides and instructions where you essentially copy/paste commands to install or configure something that it would be difficult for your average user to verify everything.
