Emacs users laughing at VIM users.
Emacs - A pretty good OS you can use as a text editor.
You for got to mention the free and heavily discounted prices to get Mac computers into schools to get kids hooked on them. Which is something they still do to this I think.
The miss use of the term “billet”. As in “Made from Billet Aluminum to military specs” I have literally sourced metals from all over the world. Ain’t no one ever tried to sell me “billet” anything.
A billet is an old term that was used when iron and steels were smelted and then poured in to either kind of a bread loaf mold or a round shape called a bloom. It would then be reheated at a later time and then formed into the final shape. No one would use “billet” or a “bloom” to make anything from it. It would have been “sponge” like and to soft to be useful for anything.
Fecking sales trying to market to ignorant people with a term that doesn’t mean what anyone thinks it means.
It’s supposed to end in failure due to having all the money squeezed and sucked out of the company.
Ya Boi is accidentally pretty smart. One of the biggest issues I have with Lodge cast iron is the poor bottom finish - such rough tool marks. I have sanded the bottoms smooth on several of the pieces I’ve gotten over the years. A quality smooth finish, (like you find on good vintage cast iron pieces), makes for easier curing and a slicker surface.
So do what Lodge didn’t do and sand those insides shmoove.
Or perhaps try ungoogled chrome if you enjoy Chrome.
I’m running Fedora 40 Atomic Budgie on a little micro desktop for fun right now. IMO, it’s not quite ready for prime time just yet. I do appreciate the simple ability to roll back at boot if something does go wrong. I’ve done it once after an update and it was nice. The next day a new update was pushed to fix the error in the update and on I went on my merry way.
On the other hand, there is a general sluggishness and a feeling of malaise to the system as time goes on. It’s not a show stopper. But it does not spark joy either. Budgie ran a whole lot faster and smoother as a “standard” install. And I’m not installing a lot of extra software and they are all installed as Flatpaks or I have 3 pieces installed as appImages. So it’s all just updates.
The real test will come when Fedora shifts from 40 to 41 and I upgrade the distro. Will it be as “immutable” as they brag about.
Ahhh, I remember my days of wearing the sackcloth and ashes of Slack. I would go back to that purity. But I’m now old and far too lazy.
You think LM being “too old” is a problem for newbies? I’ve been running some distro or other since RedHat 5. I it took me 6 weeks of waiting for Fedora to sort out most of the issues, (and I STILL have some minor ghosting issues and I ain’t no gamer), and 4 tries to get Fedora 40 to successfully take the nVidia drivers for the GTX1650 chipset in my laptop.
You think a new wannbe convert is going to put up with that?
Variety - a silly taskbar program that changes my background randomly from my own selected sources with added random quotes. I have it set to change my background every 3 hours and the quotes every hour I think. I just can’ live without it anymore.
