Technology@lemmy.world•The FCC just saved Netgear from its router ban for no obvious reasonEnglish
2·6 days agoYeah, it’s that consumer label that confuses me. Like, I doubt too many businesses are buying $54 USD Netgear WAPs, and their language specifically included SoHo stuff iirc.

1·6 days agoI’m curious about standalone WAPs, not existing all-in-ones put into WAP mode. I’m guessing they just don’t fall under the “consumer” umbrella even though they are pretty cheap (this netgear is $54 USD on amazon)

4·6 days agoDid anybody ever confirm if standalone wireless access points are subject to this weird FCC ban thing? Because, like, you can make your own router out of an old computer.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•720p x264 vs 1080p x265English
1·13 days agoIt really depends on how it was originally encded to x264 and what your goals for transcoding are in the first place (save space, playback compatibility, etc etc). there’s a pretty good little post on stackexchange that goes into more detail about the ffmpeg flags.

6·13 days agoAbusing the already broken youtube copyright strike system is not doing anyone a favor holy shit.
A guy I worked with used to sell. I went over to his place one time and he had literally dozens of strains, just because he liked trying them but didn’t smoke a lot. If you bought from him he would give you several different kinds and insist that you keep a journal of how different they all felt lol.

I hope they bring some vibe coded, 3d-printed anti-air defense missiles with them!
