lemmy - news and funny pics and the casual convo

zero. i guess it doesn’t translate well.
i know what it is. but nowadays we already have unsolicited dick pics so yeah.
imo propaganda. memeship. education policies.
propaganda is easy because all the mainstream media is about Trump doing unhinged things. Free PR.
memeship is likely a product of propaganda where the internet regurgitates controversial topics to milk more engagement.
As others have said, a lot of people already have almost zero critical thinking and the elections are just a test of who they remember the most.
the money involved. someone with no financial backing will have a hard time campaigning. and with mostly private news and entertainment channels, good luck with that.
separation of church and state, yet you see someone with this “faith council” and church endorsements. i guess, i think there should be some sort of commission to lay down rules and enforce them.
debates and fact checking, i don’t get why fact checking isn’t allowed on an event that is supposed to inform people and help them decide.

i totally feel you. for close friends / acquaintances:
ooooh, what a politically loaded word. there’s a familiar clarence thomas mention there too.
bork rings a bell for me. from the sweedish chef. my headcanon is when you try to work but totally borked it. the original intention may be different.
sus. suspicious. easier to say and since everybody almost knows it, they can easily catch on. totally not “jesus”.
gg/rip. good game. i find very flexible to use and feels like it’s acceptable in most circumstances to mean “it’s over”.
yes. i like the idea of federated communities. even obscure interests have its place as long as there’s a community or enough interest to set up an instance.
imo, it takes a kind of effort to be constantly “aware” and “battling/ avoiding” depression. it would be nice if the brain just auto-switches in battle-mode but that’s not its natural state.
As for how I battle my own, I do hobbies like plants, walking and reading; and sleeping. Sometimes I do cheat days.
there’s usually signs for me to help decide:
Ads. But only when the ad doesn’t stan.
The ones that invade privacy, I feel, are taking too much advantage.
no proof, but it can be attributed to a kind of addiction and dopamine association.
it is not that you start hating the average food, but your mind misses that dopamine hit the good food carries. think of it like a withdrawal like effect where your body is now conditioned and has a “higher bar” for things.
glad you found a good fit! i could see how wide feet can be a tough pick for getting the comfiest socks.
I couldn’t think of any public trust that’s going to benefit to a buy out like this.
To me, it totally makes sense for a private entity/ corpo to handle private data [with consent] from its clients.
I see this as more like the old 23andMe had a private service going on that can’t the public sector doesn’t. It doesn’t make sense for the government the size of USA to prioritize/suddenly adjust policies and provide the same service.
What could be possible is for local governments to step up via public petitions – but even that could be a stretch in terms of cash-in-hand.
super soft fuzzy home slippers.
they’re just cozy and very comfy.
also wool socks or any thick socks – really comfy.
might be just for the preservation of its theme/origin. it is really old-timey.
grit your teeth / grit those teeth comes to mind.
although it doesn’t have to be short in terms of time, just temporarily.
also the old timey gird up your loins
america is a capitalist country, or so i read and heard. money should be the motivator here.
and i also see your point. the general trend of money is to move upward. your fighting chance is to get the money to stay longer in your hands for you to benefit before it gets sucked up.
all i can say here is don’t stay too much on the bigger things. more likely, you will not have control for any of those. focus on the smaller things you can change on the dailies.
