I have blink outdoor cameras, not the best out there, but very usable video, indoor work the same, you can put a USB flash drive in the sync module and use it on the local network, i use my 2.4 band for that and my home automation. Recorded clips stay on my flash drive locally, and I just say no to the subscription if it asks. All cameras connect to the same sync module. Have no complaints.

On Linux file extensions aren’t necessary, you can set permissions to whether a file is executable or not as an attribute to the file, so you can download this text script file that’s been renamed to be a .exe, and it won’t work on windows at all, nor on linux, until after you either give it permission to execute and then run it, or run it by piping it into the bash shell, which is what their one-liner copy/paste with the tinyurl would end up doing.

Yeah, no doubt different facilities run things differently. Depends on where you are, who governs it and it’s security level. Low security gets more privileges than medium, high, or maximum security. Though for us medium security and lower could have small games, dice, dominoes, etc during rec hours.

If you’re rolling D20s, but there are also D4s, D6s, D8s, D10s, D12s, and a D10 Percentage die for 5e, and some spells require multiple of the same dice, so rolling 6d6 is a very real scenario, so you can have plenty of dice to use to find variations to get to 7 with different sided dice.

Don’t worry, there are dice in (at least some) prisons, every cell block had at least one D&D group going with 4-6 people, and they used dice.

what do you mean my setup? I have a fat PS2 with an OG network adapter that I removed the IDE board from and replaced with a SATA board and attached a SSD to it. Network cable runs from the network adapter to the wall, I have lots of magic behind the wall, and then it comes out at the NAS where I have a share where all the games are digitally backed up while the discs store dust in a box in my closet. Only game I currently run off the SSD since it won’t work over the NAS is FF10-2, and really the only reason I even ripped it was because that’s how I felt when the game came out…

I have my ps2 games on my Nas and set up a share that Open Ps2 Loader could access, except the games that don’t work like that which i have on an internal ssd, this sounds like a much easier solution I could have done instead of needing to get an oem network adapter, a hard drive, a sata adapter board, a d all the configuration and freemcboot… sounds like this would replace all that… if I wasn’t already set up I would have gone this route.

A Mary Sue can still fail, they just usually succeed. The biggest issues with a Mary Sue aren’t their success, its the believability of their success. Is it reasonable for this person to be so skilled. If they have PHD level knowledge in 15 different fields, that’s a bit much. But they may have PHD level knowledge in 1 or 2 fields, and they may be able to get through like that without coming off as a Mary Sue, look at The Martian by Andy Weir (or the movie with Matt Damon) The premise of sending people with 2 PHDs in complementary fields to reduce the number of people needing to be sent makes logical sense, so him being an expert, and also being the right kind of expert, to survive makes sense. And the fact he isn’t an expert in everything else helped drive the narrative and provided the direction and the plot in a reasonable and believable way.

I think that’s what is important, not making your character flawless, or even introducing some flaws to a flawless character, because that still ends up coming off weird, but instead start with a flawed character and then remove flaws until you have just enough to make everything the character needs to survive believable. Another view of this, Die Hard, John McClaine wasn’t the typical Mary Sue, he wasn’t perfect and the audience feels like he’s constantly in danger and just a mixture of skill and luck gets him through it. A flawed character is more impactful to the reader. I am a flawed person, I relate better to flawed people.

Gmail wasn’t even the first, Hotmail, Yahoo mail, there were tons of free email offerings, even sites that would host your whole website for free like geocities. Gmail came into the market when 3rd party email being free was already well established. They just followed an Apple style of development, taking something that already exists and made a better version of it. Also back then their motto was still “Don’t Be Evil” and they mostly still kept to it, so they used that goodwill and the better user experience to grow it at a massive rate. And for the most part, its still the best experience for email for many cases.
