  • Yeah the device limit is annoying. I switched to AirVPN when Mullvad stopped doing port forwarding and it’s been fine so far. But you’d run into the same issue with the device limit.

I’m not a network expert so I honestly don’t know the difference between the two protocols enough to say that they’re any benefit of one over the other, but there might be a reason that WireGuard is becoming the default? Idk honestly.

Anyway, AirVPN still suports port forwarding and supports OpenVPN so might be an alternative for you. They don’t do security audits which is imo sketchy and makes me question if they are honest about their no logs policy, but otoh they have been around for a long time and there hasn’t been any incidence, which makes me think they’re probably good enough for torrenting.

  • The Bin Laden killing was a hoax. That guy died year ago because he was on dialysis machines that wouldn’t really function well somewhere deep in the Pakistani mountains. Or maybe he was actually in that house they raided at some point. But the message came out of nowhere like around the time of the reelection campaign. And they never showed a body. But then they even came up with some BS excuse that a sea burial would be Islamic tradition. Also if they really found him why wouldn’t they just arrest him and give him a process? I’m not buying it.

  • Yeah let’s see how that’s gonna play out but tbh the reaction was just a simple deflection and as long as the product stays open source and self hostable I don’t really care what the founder says.

The Lemmy founders say some weird tankie shit all the time. I got banned from lemmy.ml for saying there’s a genocide against Uyghurs happening in China, they said that’s racist lol. I still believe lemmy as a technology is useful.

The problem is just when the VC kicks in and starts demanding shitty stuff that’s gonna ruin the whole thing. Probably just a matter of time but until then I believe SimpleX is far from perfect but has a very convincing architecture.

  • That’s cool I’ll look into that, any alternative to a centralized service that requires phone number auth is appreciated and I think competition will make these apps only better.

I like SimpleX because you can self host, create hidden profiles and even throwaway invite links. What platforms are you missing for SimpleX? I think you can run it on Android, iPhone and through Fdroid plus you could even run it on Tails. I don’t really need interconnectivity so never tried it, but I think it exists.

Anyway, for me it really doesn’t matter, just stumbled upon SimpleX and liked it. But the more alternatives the better.

  • Kraken continuously reviews listed tokens to determine the impact from regulatory changes on our offerings.

As one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency platforms, we are constantly working to support the most comprehensive set of digital assets possible in alignment with applicable regulatory and compliance obligations.

    What’s changing?

After thorough consideration, and exploration of all viable alternatives, we concluded we have no choice but to delist Monero (XMR) in the European Economic Area (EEA) due to regulatory changes.

We did not take this decision lightly and remain committed to providing our European clients with an exceptional trading experience.

What’s next? On October 31st 2024 at 15:00 PM UTC, we will halt trading and deposits of all XMR markets (XMR/USD, XMR/EUR, XMR/BTC, XMR/USDT) for clients registered in the EEA. Any open XMR orders will also be automatically closed at this time. Note: Clients will remain able to withdraw XMR on Kraken until December 31st, 2024. December 31st 2024 at 15:00 PM UTC is the deadline for withdrawing XMR. Any clients still holding an XMR balance after this date will have their XMR automatically converted to BTC by Kraken at the going market rate. By January 6th 2025 23:59 PM UTC, we will distribute the converted XMR as BTC back to any clients who held XMR at the withdrawal deadline. Any clients who hold an XMR balance at the time of the withdrawal deadline will be automatically included in the conversion of XMR to BTC.
