ublock origin has a few lists named “annoyances” or something that arent enabled by default.
enabling them gets rid of almost all of the popups and i cant live without it anymore.
this includes cookie nags and all the miscellaneous stuff they throw at you.

the internet is insufferable without it, and many people (including some IT people) seem to not even mind it. it blows my mind.
elementaryos is made for that sort of thing, its quite simple and friendly and you need to poke around it to get it to even be able to do more ‘advanced’ stuff. its among the most polished DEs ive seen design and user-experience wise.
and it is still linux so you can disable or otherwise restrict their user account from anything you don’t want them meddling with. like the settings app and stuff, try it out on a VM and you will get what i mean.

i hope you find it. if its a common problem like “hey its a specific component or set of components that always blows out on these” you are probably in luck.
they can pass emissions if properly configured. they can perform exactly like the original ECU if tuned well, if a tiny bit better.
they don’t do OBD2 tests in my country though, only the pipe emissions test, so im not sure about that. saving a working original just for these tests is an option.
at this point your only reasonable choice is a programmable ecu.
you could maybe get a cheap one and a usable tune for that price? idk.
