Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you feel a kinship with people who drive the same make/model car as you?
3·2 days agoI did when I drove a Saab. I got it right around 2009 or so when the brand was dying off anyway. GM pretty much killed it, but the market finished it. Anyway, was always fond of them bc they’re safe and they weren’t common in the state anyway.
Now, I give a little rev for other manuals/standard trans I notice at a light as an acknowledgement they’re not alone. I usually get a little smile or nod haha. Easy to tell on flat ground and no brake lights on.

171·3 days agoSalesmen at a local car dealership would super glue quarters to the parking lot. The porters and/or customers would always try to pick them up, and it brought us so much joy to watch.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is an old movie that couldn't be made today?
12·4 days agoHeck yeah, the unedited or “Not Rated” DVD version had the uncut scene where she defecates on his chest! Quite funny at the time, but I cannot imagine then doing something like that now, nor all the 9/11 jokes. Plus making fun of NK’s Jim Jong Il. I feel like you couldn’t really do that without stirring the pot at least a little bit.

Technology@lemmy.world•Federal Bill Would Bring OS-Level Age Verification to the Entire U.S.English
1·4 days agoThe other things politicians do, like in Illinois, is introduce one bill, and his other things within it to get things passed outside the normal channels. Like when Pritzker up and banned 170+specific firearms, ammo limitations, threaded barrels, and then started a registration process. Also repealed knowingly spreading HIV illegal, so anyone (by the sound of it-haven’t looked into it much) can sleep with a new partner without disclosing HIV status. I’m assuming that’s to appeal somehow to the LGBTQ community since the bulk of voters are the Chicago area, but some time he purely for just in time for elections.
You might think the firearms thing is OK as it helps cut down on crime. Nope, instead, there’s cashless bail and softer policies towards criminals. We can’t even accurately report those numbers based on how crimes or incidents are categorized. It’s a mess.
He also just made it so that a bulk of the DOT funds go to Chicago roads with little left over for the remainder of the state… The tolls collected by the Chicago area are supposed to help that, but nooo, just keep reallocating funds around election time. Sure.
We spread word to migrate to federated and non US tech platforms to start taking their financial leg, then ad revenue drops and slowly they weaken. The weaker they are, the less political influence (aka purchasing power) they have!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are prop, non functioning guns way more expensive than airsoft guns?
4·7 days agoI would exercise caution for being too real, and carried in the wrong public setting. Otherwise have fun! All guns are expensive anymore haha.
Ah. A troll account. Got it.
Well, I’ll humor you. The world is changing, and as someone working in this field right now where AI is being pushed, it’s fun to watch people get excited for AI and watch the expression on their faces when they go to use it and are left unimpressed. Like a “I spent all this money for THIS ?!” facial expression.
As to why computer components are so expensive? To put it simply, the memory modules needed for RAM and SSDs are costly to make, and much of these resources are limited in how fast they can reliably be produced. So, many companies are capitalizing on the demand for “AI”, and a lot of that inflated cost is being passed onto consumers. So, thanks, another reason to hate AI I forgot to mention, and yes again, good troll!

Not to mention no ATM camera recording the transaction
