We should be phasing out short-haul flights where there is an adequate ground connection (e.g. London to Edinburgh or Paris) and investing in upgrading ground connections by building out high-speed rail, overnight sleeper train services (slower than flying, but as you travel in your sleep, you get the time back), ferry/boat links and such.
