I still don’t know why this architecture went for a Double XOR as the NOP, I guess they were just flexing that the reference chip design could do both in a single cycle

The first one is pretty much down to, as Gabe Newell puts it, “piracy is a service problem”. Spotify came along and (initially) provided a much better service compared to pirating your music at the time. Once they created the market segment, competitors started their own streaming subscriptions. I’d also say the Google music “upload 50,000 tracks for free” got a lot of former pirates to jump.
Now the services are going through the same enshittification that most popular online services seem to be going through, we can see piracy increasing again. Someone will notice and fill the gap in providing a good service again at some point and the pendulum will swing once more
We’re trapped in here with us
^(as long as you don’t defederate)
This guy watches Acton Retro, doesn’t he
I’m all about this being a new meme template for dad jokes
We’re pretty good at committing acts of economic self harm
Traitors is pretty good TV, I guess
I’ve been an engineer for about two decades now and pretty much everyone I’ve ever worked with has expressed that they would never work for Facebook, betting companies or defense companies.
Amazon is probably next on the shit list and then Google, but each to a much lesser extent than the ones before. Working for Google still holds a level of prestige for some people.
Lagunitas is pretty banging tho
I guess if everyone on your street is doing the same then it’s not a problem, but it’s worth noting over half the general population will have a chronotype where noise that early will be a negative for their health.
Making noise between 10am-10pm is apparently the best for everyone
Depends on what time, for me
After about 10am is pretty fair game if a noisy job needs doing IMO. If it’s music and not obnoxiously loud, that’s probably fine too
Anyone making any noise before that though absolutely should get in the sea
Hat, maybe a fan if it’s gonna be particularly hot
Also bring something to listen to, with headphones usually, but if you know that it won’t annoy others, a Bluetooth speaker can be a good addition.
If you’re gonna generate any rubbish, something to put that in and take it away again
I like to bring some cold beers too, but that’s obviously not for everyone
WordPress is still the best option IMO. The software and ecosystem are very mature and as you say they’re friendly to the fediverse too
Substack is a safe harbour for actual Nazis and they refuse to do anything about it.
Everyone should avoid that site like the plague, and encourage anyone they know using it to do the same
Yeah it can have wildly different meanings depending on the circumstances in which it’s said. It can be “well we can’t change it, may as well get on with life” all the way to “well this discussion is not gonna change anything, let’s get on with fixing it”. Very similar, but polar opposite sentiments.
I’m fine with a brioche bun, they’re upper tier buns
But don’t stack a load of stuff in there to the point the brioche disintegrates under the heft of it
That’s why we have the pretzel bun
(Likewise, don’t use a pretzel bun if you’re not gonna load it up, that bun needs grease for balance)
Emphatically disagree with you on image quality, the cameras are pretty much the only thing that are still noticeably improving between phone generations for me. This improvement is seen by proper photography review companies like DxO too.
Digital zoom is still shit today, but it was so much worse back then. We now at least have AI supersampling doing something slightly better.
The photos you’re looking at must be either cherry picked, perfect conditions, day time photography, or you just don’t know what to look for when comparing image quality.
The easiest comparisons to see the difference will be low-light night time photography, and photos with high dynamic range, such as shooting through a bright window from inside a dark room, etc.
This is all without pointing out that video image quality (using those same cameras) has improved even more noticeably since the phones you’re talking about. And with people increasingly caring about shooting video, this also explains why.
I think it’s American for GP but I might be wrong
Imagine something kinda like crocs without the toe, I guess
If you Google “slides” you’ll see loads of examples
This is all assuming it’s a spinning disk and not an SSD, so ignore me if that’s the case:
Given SAS drives are usually used in data centre storage array applications and 3TB disks have been kinda small for that use case for a fair while, there’s a fairly high chance it was in heavy use for a good number of years. I’d bet it’s probably well on its way to being a paperweight regardless of your connectivity situation.
If you do get it hooked up, don’t store anything on it you wouldn’t be okay losing.
