Totally agree. I still think from a economic and personal freedom perspective you’re a lot better off in a capitalist society under authoritarian control than in a Marxist one. Nobody is safe in an authoritarian communist (or probably better term - collectivist) society. How much examples do you need. Mao was the worst. China embraced capitalism and significantly improved the living standards of its people after Mao, while still remaining an authoritarian regime. Pinochet made the economy thriving and under socialist Salvador Allende the economy was a mess.

I am certainly not in favor of an authoritarian regime but at least capitalism gives you more economic freedom and property rights.

Oh, come on. You can do better than that. He took over from the socialists that made the country a hell and it was only getting worse. It really takes guts from a country to choose someone that is against freebies. This was not a country in a good shape. Poverty is not the only number that is currently improving btw. The Moody country ratings update is really significant. It marks the first upgrade for Argentina in over 20 years! Talking about zooming out 😀

Let’s hope Argentina continuous on this free market path and next year Lemmy will be full of Libertarians. Future is looking bright.

His purpose is clear: push deregulation so those who sponsor him can get wealthier and wealthier, no matter how he attempts to squirm to justify that goal.

See Argentina what a blessing deregulation is, we need a lot more Milei and less Marx. Socialism is one of the main reasons why Africa is still poor (read Magatte Wade - the heart of a cheetah). Economy is not a zero sum game - who cares that someone else is rich. Is that envy speaking?

Sowell started out as a Marxist btw. It is just a flawed ideology and in its most extreme form always ends in dictatorship.

    https://rumble.com/vjzm8i-why-socialism-is-very-appealing-thomas-sowell.html

I’m well aware of Basic Economics.

So I guess you haven’t read it?

  • Yes - I’ve been around since ICQ 😀 and still love new technologies.

I understand that if this community grows it will take a bit more effort to register. As long as no gmail address is needed for registering and tuta or similar is accepted I am fine with that. I just don’t like the phone registration obligations that are usually tied to registering.

Juist tried a libertarian comment on a ‘hot’ pro-socialist topic - lets see how it goes. I think I will keep on posting locally here now and then with some new content. Libertarianism needs to be explained and promoted. You can see in Argentina what 100 years of collectivism has done to that country.

    Indeed

"The economic disasters of socialism and communism come from assuming a blanket superiority of those who want to run a whole economy. Thomas Sowell " If the tyrant is going to use AI to control people we will be entering a dystopian nightmare. The smaller the government and the less influence they have on your personal life the better. This doesn’t apply to socialism only but also fascism. Free speech, liberty and property rights should be the core values of every society.

  • Only started to use Lemmy yesterday and noticed it seems to be a fairly technical community and indeed very liberal/marxist. Haven’t seen a lot of conservative or libertarian comments and the few I’ve seen were heavily downvoted. I like the decentralized and technical aspect of Lemmy. You can basically start your own ‘mini-reddit’. It just needs more users to make it an interesting place. Almost all social media is horrible from a privacy pov these days. Almost impossible to register without phone and via VPN.
This instance not even requires an e-mail address. 👍
