… I don’t watch anything and stopped years ago. Though saying that I do watch videos about people sailing…

  • Not a damn thing, so I wanna post a comment just to ask about lesser known comedies that are worth watching. It’s so damn rare for a comedy to come out these days (with the only thing to maybe look forward to being the remake of Naked Gun) and it’s my favorite genre. If it’s hugely popular, chances are I have seen it, probably millions of times to boot; I want something I haven’t seen before.

How about old comedies? Top.Secret was new to me and is now timely with Val Kilmer’s death.

Or, modern old Timey influenced, Hundreds of Beavers.

      • Old is good. Top Secret has some amazing visual gags. The backwards scene, the magnifying glass, the underwater bar fight… And it was also one that until recently flew under my radar.

Hundreds of Beavers isn’t something I have seen tho.

Oh, you are in for a treat with hundreds of beavers, enjoy!

But basically agree, good comedies are depressingly rare.

Have you seen Waiting for Guffman and/or American Movie? Criminally unknown (in my opinion) pair of early mockumentaries.

Not sure if these are what you’re looking for, but “Three Amigos”, “The Jerk”, and “Rustler’s Rhapsody” are three of my favorites.

FMA: Brotherhood (rewatching). Space Station Weird (YouTube short animations). The Day The Earth Blew Up.

That last one was a surprise. Such a better movie than your expect for how deeply it’s been hidden from view.

You think so, Re: The Day The Earth Blew Up? I found it kind of middling although the animation was quite good and call backs to classic Looney Tunes were fun. I did enjoy Daffy going full-on Daffy at the end.

Do you mean the the writing was middling? What are you comparing it to, if so?

For my part, I feel like they knew what’s for sale: visual gags, old school white face/red nose, callbacks, and a lot of really high polish old school animation. It was never going to be EEAAO.

I just thought it wasn’t very funny, so yes, writing was middling and I’m not above enjoying kids movies. I had expected more genuine wacky stuff from a Looney Tunes flick. It needed more weird stuff like Farmer Jim, honestly.

Farmer Jim was inspired. My 6 year old liked it, but my wife did pass out during the show and I don’t blame her. They played it a bit too safe for this kind of “last hurrah” project imo, but it was certainly better than any of WB’s Space Jam stuff. It’s a shame that Looney Tunes are a bit doomed under the current CEO.

I finished West World. Season 4 sucked.

Just started Solo Leveling, based on my friend’s recommendation. Five episodes in and I’m enjoying it.

I watched Watchmen (2009) last night, thereby answering the question and the meta-question.

Finished up Common Side Effects. So glad it got renewed for a second season.

Started Devil May Cry, which is… Okay. It’s very much in line with other Adi Shankar animations. He really loves his stupid yet overpowered cismen heroes.

Also watched the leaked workprint of A Minecraft Movie. It was bad.

I’ve watched Emilia Perez. I think it was pretty ambitious and a good movie, mix of musical and thriller, talking about drug cartels and transgender transition. It got review bombed because one of the main actresses posted racist tweets years ago, she apologized for it and she’s just one in the hundreds who made this movie, following that every single aspect of the movie was critized as if a work of fiction was supposed to be a peer reviewed science based documentary of real life or something. So I think it deserves better.

Watched the second half of Kingdom of Heaven that I started about 6 months ago. The extended directors edition pushes of over 3 hours and I don’t have time for that in a single day.

Got through half of Black Hawk Down. One of my favourite films that I haven’t seen in years.
