“How do speech bubbles work?”
Centurri’s style is heavily influenced by manga so it’s probably intended to be read right to left.
Even then it doesn’t work great. You can only guess wo says what because of the context.
at least the colo(u)rs match up
Took me five attempts to understand this is read right to left

Is the character in the right saying the white-lettered words?
This is why speech bubbles are a thing lol
Yes
Also the last panel isn’t needed.
Edit: What I mean is that the joke has already landed by the second panel. We see that the character made a dodge move off the lift, we know what will happen next.
Brevity is the soul of wit.
I disagree. Seeing the troll character standing there still smiling as if nothing has happened, and the AAAAAAAAH that has completely replaced the trolled character really punctuates it, imo.
Really none of the art is needed, it should just all be stick figures. Artistic expression is pointless after all. 🙄
Really none of the stick figures are needed, just give us the Gpt prompt
Not a single souls game on any platform used x to dodge
In Japan x and o are swapped, so souls games on Japanese consoles use x
When I booted up Final Fantasy VII for the first time on my PS1, I was so confused as to why I could not start a new game. I was young, but I’m pretty sure I just shrugged and put the game away for months.
Explain
In Souls-like games, pressing the ‘dodge’ button when on a narrow platform is a very easy way to accidentally jump off the platform and die horribly.
What controllers use X for the dodge button? Even with over 2k hours in From Software games combined this joke didn’t register with me lol
Everyone laugh at the console pleb.
What monster plays a fromsoft game on kb/m? That sounds like the most miserable experience.
I preferred it. Some people are more used to rapid movement types from a controller more than keyboard and mouse. I do use keyboard and mouse for some games, but for ones with this kinda feel in the way camera and moves work, I prefer controller. Monster Hunter is another I prefer controller on, as is FFXIV. Horizon Zero Dawn also.
Stuff like Mass Effect, Ark, Enshrouded, Deep rock, helldivers, dark tide are all mouse and keyboard.
People have different preferences and different muscle memory.
I think I like Hades more on controller too.
I prefer controller in just about anything I can use it in. Comfort is king when gaming.
Crap, I read your comment backwards and thought you meant who the hell doesn’t use kb/m. Hehe, ignore it. I’m very team controller.
Me! Is shit until DS3 but I still prefer it than learning to use the joystick.
Pretty sure keyboards use spacebar for roll. Also PC’s can use controllers, and you should if playing a Souls game.
if you have never connected a PS5 controller to your PC you are missing out
I only play on PC. Everyone laugh at the gatekeeper.
It’s usually pressed with a move command to make you dodge roll, but if you are stationary it makes you take a step back for whatever reason.
Damn Fia got stacked.
Why X isn’t dodge usually B/o?
Dark souls isn’t the only game with a dodge. In fact, in dark souls traditionally just pressing dodge will get you a back step, not a roll, so I’d argue that this isn’t specifically a dark souls reference, just action RPGs in general.

Because the person who posted the comic said it’s a direct reference to ds3 (not the comic artist, mind you, just the poster here) it must absolutely be ds3, and nothing else.
I think DS3 is X. At least one of the Dark Souls games is, I have it ingrained in my muscle memory.
It’s okay that it’s not from dark souls. The joke still works, some games use X to dodge, and some of them include multiplayer and narrow platforms with death below.
DS3 uses the usual souls controls
Playstation controller 🤢
regardless X on an xbox style controller would be “use item” or switch between twohand on a Nintendo style controller. There is no common controllerscheme where it would be dodge.
You are really invested in this now aren’t you?
Ah good ole’ “You really care about this” as an attempt to discredit an opposing argument. Can’t let them know we’ve run out of ideas to support our failing point of view!
Yes. The only recent FromSoft game where this could happen is AC6, but it doesn’t have player messages.
I mean, I am too. The joke doesn’t make sense as it’s written, but it would if there’s a different game that uses X to backstep.
There are TONS of games that use X as a dodge button. Just because the big game dev, fromsoft, use another button for roll, doesn’t mean no game does. The joke isn’t about what button you press, it’s about getting someone to press literally any button that would mess them up in a normally safe situation.
These people are clearly incapable of separating the joke from reality. Who cares what button is being pressed. The joke is the same even if you put some hieroglyphics in place of it.
Is this like an autism thing?
Be it PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo, the right-most face button is the only one that is not X on any of them.
But what if I’m using a GameCube controller? Eh? What then?
Of course then I can’t use a shield, so I’m dead long before I get a chance to roll off anything.
Controller player 🤢
Controller is practically necessary for some games, and souls/souls-like games are a great example of that.
I think controller is only ‘necessary’ for souls games due to them not supporting keyboard and mouse well. I’d prefer to use keyboard for it, but all of the inputs and menu-ing is fucked up.
Tbh, its a testament to how good the games are, that they are enjoyable despite a huge lack of QoL across the board
🤢🤢🤢
Only for Soulslikes and fighting games 😔
